- Why my ac is not cooling?
- My window air conditioner is running but why not cooling the house?
- How do I fix my air conditioner not cooling?
- Ac is not cooling. What is the problem?
- What to do if ac is not cooling?
- What causes ac not cooling?
If such types of questions are coming to your mind because your ac is not blowing cool air well, you are getting into a mesh of confusion.
Sit back and relax we will give some possible reasons and solutions why your ac is not working well.
When you are trying to find, the possible reason why cool air is not blowing from your air conditioner or ac is running but cooling is not sufficient, you can take these steps to check out where is the problem.
Faulty Thermostat -
Fan Setting -
Leaky Ducts -
Drainage Problem –
Obstructed outside unit –
Dirty Filter-
Electrical Issues –
Unit freezing up-
Electronic Control Board(PCB Problem-
Fan Motor Capacitor-
Refrigerant Leak- Call a technician to repair.
Old AC System-
It should be set properly and make sure to read the temperature accurately. Sometimes thermostat is on the wrong setting can be all that is causing your home-comfort woes. Check the thermostat settings and make sure that your thermostat is set to ‘COOL’, you did not inadvertently switch it to the ‘OFF’ position.
The Thermostat Fan should be in “auto” mode not ‘on”. . Check that the fan isn’t set to the ‘ON’ position, as this can affect the cooling process. If this is the case, switching the fan to ‘AUTO’ should restore your home’s comfort.
Need professional cleaning and seal your ducts. Before air reaches the rooms of your home, it travels through a series of ductwork. Over time, air ducts can lose their sealing or insulation, which can cause air to leak from the ducts. This causes excess cool air to escape, making it difficult for your home to reach its desired temperature. If the air ducts in your home are on the older side, schedule an inspection with your local technician.
Check the drain for clog and fix the problem if any.
Some newer HVAC units have sensors that will alert you if your ac drain line is clogged so you can fix the problem before there’s any water damage. If your unit isn’t equipped with this technology, you’ll know the ac drain line is clogged because the drain pan is full of water. Make it a habit to check your drain pan whenever you change the filter, so you can catch any issue right away.
The ac condensate drain line removes the water released when the evaporator in your ac unit converts refrigerant from a liquid to a gas. Over time, algae and other muck can build up. This may lead to an ac drain line clog if you do not maintain your ac unit regularly.
Check the outside unit for debris or blockage. One thing many homeowners don’t consider is the area surrounding the outdoor component of their air conditioning system. The condenser unit needs to be free from obstructions like bushes, plants, tree roots, and outside furniture. If the condenser unit is blocked, it can’t receive enough air to release heat, making your home warmed in that condition.
Limited airflow can be caused by a dirty filter or old filter, clean the filter or replace it if necessary.
Air filters work to trap dander, dirt, dust, and the like from dispersing throughout the air in your home. But to do so, they need to be cleaned or needed a new air filter regularly. If this is not done, your ac will have to work harder to pass air through the clogged filter, resulting in inefficient cooling.
Regularly changing your air filter is an essential part of basic preventive HVAC maintenance. If you don’t change your air filter regularly, then it can restrict airflow, causing your ac system to blow warm air. Changing your air filter is one of the simplest things that can be done to maintain good airflow, so be sure to swap those dirty air filters for clean ones every month.
Power Supply fluctuation may be the cause of your home comfort woes. You should ensure sufficient energy supply to cool properly your home or office, insufficient energy or fluctuated power supply may cause to stop cooling accurately also harmful to your unit.
Evaporator coil of ac may cool too much and freeze.
The common cause of window ac icing up is a lack of sufficient airflow. To work ac properly, a fan draws air over the evaporator coils where it is cooled and circulated back into the room.
If the circulating fan is not running as required, airflow is not sufficient over the evaporator coils and causes them to become too cold and frost or ice can form, further restricting airflow even more and resultant very low or no cool air being circulated into the room.
Sometimes Electronic control board colloquially called PCB gets defected. And as it is clear by name it controls the fan motor and compressor circuit.
Normally a sensing thermistor, located at the evaporator coil that monitors the room air temperature and turns the compressor on and off. If the control board is defective, it can cause the compressor to run continuously and possibly lower the temperature of the room air to a point where the evaporator can no longer extract heat from it and the coils will begin to ice over. This can also occur normally during very high humidity conditions. Inspect the sensor for any signs of damage before condemning the control board.
Some window air conditioners utilize a run capacitor in the fan motor. If the motor makes a low, steady continuous sound slowly you may have a defective capacitor. The fan motor and capacitor are located inside the cabinet and access will require removal of the cover. If the capacitor does not show any visible signs of damage you will require an expert and experienced HVAC technician to check the ac.
Your air conditioner may not be blowing cool air due to a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant is a cooling agent necessary in the refrigeration cycle of your air conditioning system that moves heat from the inside to the outside.
Refrigerant is not used up or lost in this process, however, refrigerant can leak or deplete altogether.
If your air conditioning system experiences a refrigerant leak, there won’t be enough refrigerant to move the heat outside. This can make your home feel hotter than usual, despite your thermostat is in the correct setting.
If you suspect you have a leaking refrigerant, call an HVAC professional and schedule a repair service.
There comes a time in every air conditioning system’s life that we must say goodbye. If your air conditioning system just isn’t cooling your home like it used to, and it’s more than 10 years old, it may be time to upgrade. A reputable air conditioning and heating company will give you a proper assessment and discuss your best options.
